FLOATIE - “CATCH A GOOD WORM”

Floatie’s “Catch A Good Worm” is the first single of the Exploding in Sound band’s upcoming record, Voyage Out. The rigid drums and silvery guitar come in hot, followed closely by Sam Bern’s dewy vocals, constructing a cloudy, syncopated, and melancholic landscape. The Chicago band meshes together in a piercing, organic way; almost stream of consciousness style… if your consciousness was a perfectly orchestrated swarm of chaotic sound. The vocals, like a rhythmic conversation, swim back and forth, parallel to the instrumentals. “You hear the words, but tell yourself / That you deserve, what you’re dealt”, this battle between allowing yourself to grow and feeling glued to where you’ve always been. It’s a cleanly curated combo of math rock and post-punk nostalgia, true to the Exploding in Sound anthology. All this to say, I’d be kidding myself if I wasn’t daydreaming of live music and sweaty rooms while listening to this. I’ll be patiently awaiting Voyage Out, in hopes of seeing it live one day… whenever that will be.
