‘“Snap Dragon”, the most recent release from Springfield’s favorite Brat Pitt, feels like the perfect song to accompany the end of 2020. Cole Simmons (aka Brat Pitt) shares a sound that is punchy but sweet, fresh but familiar– pulling from a wide array of influences like Buck Owens, Crosby Nash, and The Smashing Pumpkins, with a strong creative vision to build a diverse and emotional sonic landscape. The production is deeply thoughtful and concise while remaining playful and nostalgic with melodic pedal steel and a must-dance-to-this beat.
The collaboration with Daniel Gum makes the song feel like a conversation between two familiar friends, a match made in Missouri music heaven. Maybe it’s the collaboration, or maybe it’s the robust production, but “Snap Dragon” makes me miss house shows, warm summer days with friends, and deep late-night conversations.
