Sucedáneo Humano - "Gentes"

SUCEDÁNEO HUMANO - “GENTES”

About a month ago Spanish band Sucedàneo Humano (which translates to Substitute Human in English) released a single from their new album, Sìndrome de Procusto, now streaming everywhere! “Gentes” is about the misdirected path we are taking as members of a global society. As they critique the state of humanity they point out the lack of modesty, laughter, and consideration which all add to the thoughtlessness of our actions. One specific element of their criticisms, which is specifically poignant to Americans and Spaniards alike, is the ineffectiveness of voting for the plans of politicians. Both of our countries have had turbulent political situations in recent years which have resulted in the disillusionment of our current systems of government. Our representatives preaching one way while acting differently coupled with the global rise in white supremacy has contributed to this disappointment. Our neighbors are strangers, the people we pass on the sidewalk lie and we’ve lost our ability to smile. These ruminations glide over a simple guitar chord paired with touches of a ghostly, solitary trumpet and, is that a xylophone? The video for this single is an interesting rotation of the faces one may see while walking through the streets of Leòn. These faces aren’t dissimilar to who we see while walking through Kansas City either. They’re the faces of someone’s sister, brother, father, friend, or anyone really. Some laugh, some smile, some shake their hair, but they are all victims of the world we live in, one way or another.
