KC native R.I.Peter’s debut LP Soft Serve brims with electricity and glamour— a bubblegum pop jaunt bouncing buoyantly between disco, folk, and 80’s outrun, Peter Beatty weaves his way through different styles, tones, and textures, giving us a culmination of efforts long-awaited. Treated with moments of luscious sine waves, tasty licks, experimental vocal effects, and the occasional funky drum machine, Beatty reflects upon moments lost, fossilized memories, and cherished visions. Two songs (Cruis’n/Rising Sun) are carried over from their eponymous split-single EP, but tie in well with the energy of the long play. A refreshing exploration into FM synthesis powered by refined production technique and framed by past fears and future dreams, Beatty’s album is a vision that radiates a dreamlike, soft pastel presence as it journeys the listener through the valleys and lakes of a sun-kissed postcard – a debut glow up through and through!
