Sam Wells - "For the Deflated" EP

SAM WELLS - FOR THE DEFLATED

A nice EP to start the year to and to start building up all the broken things. In 4 songs and in 14 minutes, Sam Wells offers you a hand to hold and a pinch of Black girl magic.

Her EP takes you through a little lifetime. We’re led by Sam’s baritone ukulele in “Desert Youth” through slow and comforting femme vocals and thunder sounds. Through the storm, we get to the title track. It’s a nice frolicky song. H head bopper and a finger snapper. It’s fun, funky, and forgiving. “Ooooo ooooo what can we do? Just little ole me and you.” There are also some nice soothing background vocals with us in this one. The next track takes a little turn to spiritually shoo away the haters. A spunky and friendly f*** you song with keys and trumpets following her vocals affirms freely and carelessly that, sorry but, she really really really doesn’t like you. Fortunately for whoever you are, she left you a little keyboard solo to reflect on. We open up a bit in “Taking Chances”. It’s nice. A song with a little more distance and a bit slower approach. The haters are on the back burner with this one; we’re led with friends to open our eyes to the possibilities of the future. A great little ender and an opener to new beginnings.

“For the Deflated” offers some good ole Black femme wisdom and friendliness and a taste of hard love. It's a nice album to take a solo drive or a walk with. Give it a listen and let Sam Wells be your doorway to a good year.

LISTEN NOW.
