Jungle Green - "Josie's in the Back of a Pickup Truck"
JUNGLE GREEN- “JOSIE’S IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP TRUCK”
“Collaborating through technology amidst a global pandemic, Chicago’s six-piece outfit, Jungle Green, has brewed a new single that makes quarantime a bit easier to swallow. Crafted remotely, the track was written, edited, and mixed from their separate homes. Despite the distance, “Josie’s in the Back of a Pickup Truck” was born out of, it distills an intimate sound steeped in a sentiment we haven’t heard enough recently through our thick closed doors -- music can make us feel close even while apart.
Fusing post-punk gusto with the trendy tang of disco, you can hear multifaceted tones of delicious dichotomy wafting from bittersweet notes. Enigmatic as that nameless person you always sit next to at your local coffee shop, the song calls you to grow accustomed and foster an appreciation for its existence. There’s always more than meets the eye -- and ear. Upon first listen, you come to appreciate the melody’s interknit measured poise and calm nonchalance, swaying like your perfect stranger’s striking but soft put-together sweater.
Beneath first impressions, you notice depth underlying the rose-y timbre and lighthearted appearance. Motivated and devoted, you get wind of dynamic percussion seeping from their cup after you unearth hot black coffee. So strong you can sense it’s fermented fervor from where you’re sitting as you watch the heavy-but-eloquent steam rise from it’s rim. Slowly, they take a sip of the thick dark synth, juxtaposing their sunny disposition.
The next day, you find yourself back ordering a black coffee in an attempt to taste an ounce of their personhood. Lasting only 2 minutes and 34 seconds, you are left wanting to know more. But you know they’ll be back and you can be strangers again tomorrow.
Remind yourself what it’s like to feel connected and turn on Jungle Green’s “Josie’s in the Back of a Pickup Truck”. Take comfort in being alone together.”
