”Damn! someone’s in love. This song makes me feel like I’m chewing bubblegum on a pink day, prancing down some street with a toothy smile that freaks out the people boxed up in their cars. In “Straight Talk”, No Germ Candy sings with the lyrical stream of Kimya Dawson, and performs the same wisped away, blissed out in a luv trance of Syd Barret in “Love you”. The fairytale of easy lovin’ is really to credit for this song here. You can hear a glimmer in their eye, I swear - and they are also definitely some sort of princess.

A lot of their music is sweet-sounding fall off the tongue indy pop stuff like this. Their earlier Bandcamp releases sing tales of “Beach Man” and “Trash Can Boy”. These bois are probably cute, but they can’t compare to the awe of this lover, whose tune is now pressed to vinyl thanks to the Too Much Rock Single Series by Sid Sowder. “Straight Talk” is No Germ Candy’s first-ever physical release, paired with a cover of Beat Happening’s “Indian Summer”, and available for purchase at most KC record stores and online through their Bandcamp.

Listen along as the world is temporarily transformed into a musical. When the song starts, I picture No Germ Candy stepping up prophetically from a park bench. All the birds start following them, whistling along, and of course, the flowers are swaying beside sharing their big cartoon smiley faces. The imagery of Fantasia's “Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy” also comes to mind. Clearly, No Germ Candy is the sugarplum fairy. Anyway, listen to the song, and buy a record to keep the spirit alive :-) This will be you with your fellow germers:
