“A dripping synth sample cascades on the first half of “Champagne Chutney,” the debut single from Scabb’s forthcoming EP Nada. His delivery is playful, taunting, and self-deprecating (“Talking like I’m 6’5, 250/In reality I’m short, round, with loose pennies/Catchin’ my two cents”). There’s a rope-a-dope element in the structure; as soon as he cuts himself down, we get caught off guard with a lyric that makes him larger than life. There’s a humor and cleverness that’s delivered full throttle, but halfway through somehow shifts the gear even higher. The sample shifts and the pace quickens, culminating in my favorite lyric: “No pity parties or a pot to fuckin’ piss in.” HIGH anticipation for this release and a rush of much needed energy.”
