THE NICOLE SPRINGER BAND - “COME CLEAN”
Video self-released - 04.24.20.
Directed & filmed by Kelly Powell of Elements Studio Photography
People love a good love story, and The Nicole Springer Band’s song “Come Clean” does not disappoint. Wanting to not only share the love story of her and her wife, she also touched on the turmoil it took to get to that point. Before the music starts, a short montage explains how Nicole was made homeless at age 19 when she came out of the closet, then the music begins as she walks out of a warehouse elevator alone to plug in her guitar. The song’s warm intro flows around as we’re greeted with equally warm scenes of Nichole and her wife enjoying their happy relationship. The song continues to build to its chorus of “I’ll let you in” with intermittent shots of the full band playing in a warehouse and of the enamored couple. Nicole’s strong voice and the band’s jammin’ sound really builds its own kind of safe space, a space we all need to be able to come to terms with who we are and learn to love ourselves. I would describe this song as the color blue, bright and fun with a sense of purpose. Towards the end of the video, we get to see a series of other queer female couples just enjoying their lives out and proud. As the song fades, we see Nicole leaving the set in the same elevator she entered in, this time with her wife.
