OXFORD REMEDY- “FOR THOSE WHO KNOW, TELL ME WHATT I’M SUPPOSED TO DO"
Self-released digitally - 05.01.20.
“With gusto and care, Oxford Remedy returns in 2020 with an explosive new extended-play: "For Those Who Know, Tell Me What I'm Supposed To Do". If this is the way of the new Midwestern emo mise-en-scene, they're moving in the right direction. Emotive, tenebrous at times but never not brimming with energy, these 5 tracks float around the realm of Jets To Brazil, Sleater-Kinney or echoes of early Foo Fighters. A hooky EP, yet with typical emo-grunge conventions, it's not quite what you'd expect from a Kansas quartet these days, but it is deft and gripping to say the least. There's a tentativeness though-- their songwriting prowess here is a clear leap from their first release, but they still don't seem to be letting loose their full sonic potential. We would have also liked to have seen some more polishing within the production, but for their first attempt at a self-record, their ripping torn-speaker guitar tones and robust lead vocals sit just perfectly fine with us. Ultimately, haven't had "The Moon & Antarctica" vibes like this in a while, and we're loving it. Fav track: Time Well Wasted”
