“Are you who you want to be?” Girl K’s awakening new single, “Settle” impeccably confronts ubiquitous inclinations to accept mediocrity. Its unapologetic truthfulness doesn’t need a forced intro. Throwing you in with sterling sharp zealous guitar, you begin to question your direction. Nonchalant reflective vocals mirror the passive laissez-faire approach we have all taken in life at times. Juxtaposed with authoritative melodies, the intuitive instrumentation subliminally demands us to find the motivation to resist stagnation and seek something more, something better. Nearing the end, the tempo suddenly quickens, mimicking the burdensome brick of pressure that falls on our shoulders. The pivotal verse abruptly ends, reminding us to pick up where they left off: don’t settle.
