SINGLE REVIEW :: Squirrel Flower - "Red Shoulder"

Squirrel Flower - “Red Shoulder”

Released via Polyvinyl Records on October 24th, 2019.

Apart of upcoming album “I Was Born Swimming” out January 31st!

“Simple lyrics sometimes say the most. Squirrel Flower’s “Red Shoulder” does simply this. Syrupy guitar stretches out like a kaleidoscope of sentiment and is met with her luring lyrics soaked with intention. A mosaic of melody floods in like a river. Diving in head first, collages of cymbals thunder, sounding waves of earlier conversations. Underwater, your prismatic vision is clouded with the silt of the past. You see a pearly hand reaching into its depths. With words dripping with empathy, she lifts you out. Amidst the mirrored current, she leads you to a place that we all have been to before. A phone rings. Picking up the phone, you realize it’s hard to let go. It takes time, but when you’re ready, hang up. Then, throw it into the water. Take a shower and wash off the silt that still clings to your shoulders. Let it drain, along with the dial tone, into the distance.”
