The Wild Type is a five-piece indie pop band from Kansas City, MO. In 2015 the group formed under the solo project of singer-songwriter Rachel Mallin and took on a personality of its own, hosting a rotation of seasoned midwest musicians who led the group to support national touring acts such as Phantogram, Metric, Caroline Rose, and Bishop Briggs. In 2016 the indie-rock tinged EP “Degenerate Matters” was released followed by a steady stream of singles such as “Teenage Bodies”, “It Isn’t Love” and “Not Tonight Josephine” which shed a retrospective light on the polished pop roots from which the band was originally founded on. While the group devoted efforts into a full length album towards the end of 2019 and early 2020, the project was put on an indefinite hold as the coming era of social distance would derail the culture of music industries, local and national.

“Thank You, Stranger” is a collection of songs from that unfinished album, containing the last of the sonic works the group collaborated on, and a proper farewell to the fans, friends, and family who made it all possible. Drawing inspiration from modern femme-fronted acts such as St. Vincent, Rubblebucket, and Niki & The Dove, “Thank You Stranger” flaunts an unabashed pop persuasion coming apart at the seams with fuzz-fleshed guitars and reverb-washed cries for reconciliation.
